Marmet, located in Kanawha County, is a small town with a population of 1,500.

Marmet Elementary School is a pre-Kindergarten through 5th grade facility serving approximately 200 students.

Of Interest:
In 1921, coal miners from across the regions gathered in Marmet with the intent to rescue imprisoned miners in the counties of Logan and Mingo. The altercation that followed was the Battle of Blair Mountain and began the spectacular rise of the American worker and the Mine Wars.  In the 1930s a locks and dam was constructed on the Kanawha River at Marmet by the US Army Corps of Engineers to aid passage of barges down the river.
